Shockingly, its been over a year since my last post! Balancing a full-time job with a Masters degree and a house move has taken its toll, but things have let up now so will be keeping in touch more regularly.

After an even longer wait, the 2nd edition of the Albert Road Pubs print is finally available! A limited edition of 100 have been screenprinted by myself, in a choice of 3 different colours on 2 different papers, all signed & numbered. The colours available are red/black, duck-egg blue/black & green/black. The paper is coloured either white or beige, size 40cm x 50cm approx. They are priced at £39 each, plus £4.95 p&p (cash on collection/delivery is also possible for local portsmouth residents, just drop me an email), you can purchase through paypal below.

Isotype collection

Today we visited one of the largest collections of Otto and Marie Neurath Isotype collections at University of Reading. We were given the opportunity to see and handle the collection of books, documents, working methods and even the printing blocks used from this movement. It was really interesting to see the methodology behind these works.

MA major project – first draft

This is the first draft of my major project for my MA. The idea behind my project is taking the typographic rules of the 10 most popular incunabula books and comparing it to the 10 most popular books of today, to form the concept of an ideal book. The 42 page book was coptic stitched by my own hand.

Symposium

I designed this booklet to be handed out while conducting my presentation on the set question “How can the end user of graphic design be enhanced through creatively exploring materiality”. The booklet contains 5 interviews with practitioners and lecturers – Ian Noble, Simon Johnston (founder of 8vo), MWM creative, Barbara Brownie & David Pearson.

MA Proposal

Proposal submitted for the major project of my MA in Communication Design. The report centres around the question, “To what extent has the Incunabula shaped the way non phonetic structure is perceived in printer matter?” The design of the report experiments with the relationship between the boundaries of text and space. The structure of text is represented by an debossed area, creating a surface quality that enhances the way we feel and interact with the printed space.

Albert Road Pubs

I have begun a new project looking at the pubs of Portsmouth, which has one of the highest pub per person ratio in the country. The final outcome will be a book & website detailing the history and architecture of each individual pub, accompanied by a vector illustration of each.

I have produced an initial poster of 14 of the pubs found on Albert Road in Southsea. The poster has been screen printed in 2-colour acrylics (purple & green) onto Light grey Reeves Blk paper (180gsm). It is sized 40cm x 50com, and is available to purchase at £39 (+ £4.95 p&p). Limited edition of 25, each poster is signed & numbered.
